The HSC offers all disciplines of shotgun, rifle, and pistol.
SHOTGUN
Standard Trap
Trap shooting is a specific form of clay target shooting, it is a game of movement, action and split second timing. It requires accuracy and skill to repeatedly fire and break a clay target which is hurdled through the air at a speed of 42 MPH. Which simulates the flight path of a bird fleeing a hunter.
Cost: $14 non-member, $9 for members, per 25 targets.
Universal Trap
In universal trap there are 5 fixed angle machines in a bunker, rather than a single oscillating machine used in standard trap. The fixed angle machines used in universal trap throw targets at a high rate of speed. You are allowed 2 shots if needed.
Cost: $14.50 for non members, $10 for members, per 25 targets.
Wobble Trap
Similar to trap shooting with a much faster target moving up and down and side to side, with a more extreme angle.
Cost: $14 non-member, $9 for members, per 25 targets.
Skeet
Skeet has 8 shooting stations and 2 trap houses, seven of the stations are arranged in half moon between the trap houses and 1 station directly between them. The high house on the left side of the field, throws its targets from 10 feet above the ground. The low house target on the right side leaves the trap house from 3.5 feet from the ground. It rises to a height of 15 feet.
Cost: $14 non-member, $9 for members, per 25 targets.
Sporting Clays
HSC has a 14-station, 100-bird Sporting Clays course. Every station has 3 machines. All 14 stations use a wireless card reader system. With our fully automated system, you can enjoy our course as a single shooter or in a group.
We have 4 golf carts to rent. $20 for a member and $30 for a non member. Two riders per cart MAX! Our sporting clays course is user friendly. Shooters are welcome to bring their own Golf Cart, ATV, UTV to use on our course.
Targets are changed every two weeks. We are committed to keeping our course updated so that your experience is different, challenging and enjoyable every time you visit.

5-Stand
5 Stand, sometimes called Compact Clays, is a shooting discipline very similar to sporting clays, but is shot from a defined field of 5 shooting stands. There are 6-8 throwers (traps) that shooters shoot in turn at various combinations of clay birds. Each stand will have a menu card that lets the shooter know the sequence of targets. After shooting 5 birds on the menu at that stand the shooter proceeds to the next stand where they find a new menu of targets.
Targets are very similar to those you will find on the sporting clays course but all located in a field in front of the shooter.
HSC maintains multiple 5 stand fields offering a progression of fun and challenge. Targets are changed every week; we have three 5 Stand layouts.
Cost: $14 for non members, $9 for members, per 25 targets.
RIFLE
West Side Rifle Range
We offer various paper and steel targets from 3 yards out to 1,450 yards. Patrons can shoot up to 50 BMG. (no 50BMG on steel). Pistols allowed.
NO GREEN TIP AMMO (steel core penetrator/M855 etc.) You will be fined and/or removed/banned from property!

RANGE RULES
BASIC SAFETY RULES:

Never point your gun at anything you do not intend to shoot. This is particularly important when loading or unloading a firearm. In the event of an accidental discharge, no injury can occur as long as the muzzle is pointing in a safe direction.
A safe direction means a direction in which a bullet cannot possibly strike anyone, taking into account possible ricochets and the fact that bullets can penetrate walls and ceilings. The safe direction may be “up” on some occasions or “down” on others, but never at anything not intended as a target. Even when “dry firing” with an unloaded gun, you should never point the gun at an unsafe target.
Make it a habit to know exactly where the muzzle of your gun is pointing at all times, and be sure that you are in control of the direction the muzzle is pointing, even if you fall or stumble. This is your responsibility, and only you can control it.

By treating every firearm as if it is loaded, a habit of safety is developed. Firearms should be loaded only when you are in the field or on the target range or shooting area, ready to shoot. Whenever you handle a firearm, or hand it to someone, always open the action immediately, and visually check the chamber, receiver and magazine to be certain they do not contain any ammunition. Always keep actions open when not in use. Never assume a gun is unloaded — check for yourself! This is considered a mark of an experienced gun handler!

Never touch the trigger on a firearm until you actually intend to shoot. Keep your fingers away from the trigger while loading or unloading. Never pull the trigger on any firearm with the safety on the “safe” position or anywhere in between “safe” and “fire.” It is possible that the gun can fire at any time, or even later when you release the safety, without you ever touching the trigger again.

Don’t shoot unless you know exactly what your shot is going to strike. Be sure that your bullet will not injure anyone or anything beyond your target.
Be aware that even a .22 short bullet can travel over 1 1/4 miles and a high velocity cartridge, such as a .30-06, can send its bullet more than three miles. Shotgun pellets can travel 500 yards, and shotgun slugs have a range of over half a mile.
You should keep in mind how far a bullet will travel if it misses your intended target or ricochets in another direction.

We have designated RSO's at the range. If you see unsafe practices, please alert the management. Please use range etiquette when shooting at Hurtig. Common sense and good manners is always in good practice.
